2023 sustainability report
As the year comes to an end, the Benvic Group is happy to announce the release of its 2023 ESG report. This fifth edition celebrates our achievements in the path towards sustainability, while delineating the road we still have to travel.
Sharing our commitment to a sustainable growth
2023 saw the conclusion of Benvic’s first ESG action plan. The report revisits the actions undertaken and their encouraging results. Under CEO Luc Mertens’ leadership and the ESG team’s guidance, Benvic achieved Scopes 1 and 2 carbon neutrality, improved its recycling capacity (both regarding quantity of recyclate and quality of the final product), and added new innovative formulas to its biobased Plantura range.
The ESG team also focused strongly on human and social rights, creating the Benvic Code of Conduct, Diversity policy, Whistleblowing procedure, Gifts & entertainment procedure, and a Code of Conduct for suppliers. By providing a clear framework for all partners, these documents will help Benvic embody its values and furthering its vision for a brighter future.
As announced in the report, in 2023 Benvic was once more awarded a Gold Medal by EcoVadis, a global leader in sustainability ratings. We are proud to see that our score has still improved, and we vow to reach new heights in the future. Luc Mertens, Benvic CEO, emphasizes that ‘our dedication to ESG issues reflects our belief that responsible business practices are not only necessary for our growth but also vital for the communities we serve. As we move forward, we will continue to build on our successes, ensuring that our ESG initiatives align with our core values and contribute positively to society.’
Another highlight of the report is the presentation and implementation of Benvic’s current ESG action plan, covering the period 2024 to 2026. Amongst our biggest ambitions are the following goals:
- Transparency – through the creation of Environment Product Declarations (EPDs) for our products, with objective, comparable and third-party verified data.
- Sustainable procurement – using our new ESG criteria in the selection of our main suppliers.
- Scope 3 GHG emissions – encouraging circular economy in order to reduce Scope 3 GHG emissions.
Strong on its four strategic pillars – innovative approach, sustainable design, highest quality, partnership & eco-design – the Benvic Group is proud of its progress and eager for the path ahead. We encourage you to read the 2023 ESG report and reach out to our ESG team if specific subjects are of particular interest to you, or if you would like to share suggestions and potential improvements. In making the world a better place, we necessarily depend on each other. We trust that our 2023 ESG report will be a useful contribution towards our common goal.
